Frequently Asked Questions
1. Which drives/volumes does Rider 8 Tools search when looking for the search text in documents?
The user chooses which files to search by selecting files from either a Windows Explorer-type interface (the "File System" Tab) or a list of recent files (the "Recent Files" Tab). Rider 8 Tools does not open/read any other files.
2. Does Rider 8 Tools integrate with any document management software?
Rider 8 Tools does not integrate with any document management software. Rider 8 Tools has been designed to provide some of the benefits of document management software (e.g., finding precedents) to individual users without the complications/time commitment/overhead of document management software.
3. Does Rider 8 Tools software modify or interfere in any way with the contents of files, including Word templates and/or macros?
Rider 8 Tools is designed to leave no footprint on the user's files. At the beginning of a search of a document, the document file is opened by Rider 8 Tools (not by Word or any other third party program), the document text is read into memory and the file is immediately closed. Rider 8 Tool's searching and sorting of text is performed on the text in memory and not on the user's file. Rider 8 Tools does not use or modify Word templates or Word macros, and in fact Rider 8 Tools does not require having Word installed on the user's computer (even to search Word documents).
